MADISONVILLE, Tenn. Parts of East Tennessee got an early morning wake-up call when a small earthquake hit yesterday about an hour-and-a-half southwest of Knoxville.

The U-S Geological Survey recorded a 3-point-3 magnitude quake around 3:30 a.m. (Eastern) near Tellico Plains in Monroe County.

Some people in neighboring McMinn County called 9-1-1 thinking they had heard an explosion. Others had their windows rattled.

There haven't been any reports of damage from the small quake.

The quake was reported in the Eastern Tennessee seismic zone, which stretches across Tennessee and northwestern Georgia and into northeastern Alabama.
