YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) — Weather investigators are trying to determine whether a tornado touched down during a storm that knocked out power in suburban New York and dumped hail up to 2 inches deep.

The storm moved into Westchester and Nassau counties late Tuesday. Falling debris damaged some homes.

The hail pelted southern Westchester County. Snow plows scooped it up in Yonkers on Wednesday morning; the temperature was in the 60s.

Meteorologist Tim Morrin said a National Weather Service spotter saw hail as large as a golf ball.

About 21,000 customers lost power overnight in southern Westchester County. Long Island had about 5,320 outages, mostly in Nassau County.
