Introduction by Minister:
(Bride and Groom face Minister; Groom is on the right facing Minister)

Minister:
We are gathered here today to witness the marriage of:

Harold Stanley Deyo, Jr also known as "Sir Lancelot" of the French noble House of D'Ioux and

Holly Drennan Deyo also known as "The Lady Guinevere" of the Irish noble House of O'Drennan

.... and to wish them every happiness in their continuing life together.

Marriage, according to law and custom in Australia, is the voluntary union of a man and a woman, to the exclusion of all others. It is the open declaration of the firm commitment of two people, each to the other. The primary attraction between them and the primary basis on which their relationship is founded, is centred on dialogue and openness, a willingness, even an eagerness to share oneself with the other person; to expose oneself and one's needs and concerns and to accept the other self and its needs and concerns.

To love is above all, to act for the sake of the other; to act for the good of the one to be loved.

Sir Lancelot and The Lady Guinevere have invited us here to share their marriage.

They have found in each other all of the definitive qualities of marriage - love for each other; the peace that each feels with the other; the trust that each has of the other; the respect that each has for the other; the joys that they share; the burdens that each takes from the other; their mutual delight.

These qualities and more they found together, so much so, that they desire to make an open declaration of their private vows and they wish you, their friends, to witness that declaration.

Tying the Ribbon or (the 'Knot'):
Minister:

The King will tie the symbolic knot....

(Bride and Groom face each other and join right hands)

(King stands facing Groom's right side and ties the lovers knot in the ribbon around their right hands)

King:
Now, as I tie this true lovers' knot, you two are joined together as one. Gentle are the bonds of this union. Pull one way and the bonds are strengthened.... Pull the other and they are loosened.
(King steps back)

Questions:
(Bride and Groom look at Minister on the Groom's right side)

Minister: (to Groom)
Sir Lancelot will you take The Lady Guinevere to be your lawful wedded wife, will you love her, comfort her, honour her, in sickness and health, in times of joy and times of trouble, will you in fact, share your whole life with her, and forsaking all others, keep only unto her, so long as you both shall live?

Groom:
I will.

Minister: (to Bride)
Lady Guinevere will you take Sir Lancelot to be your lawful wedded husband, will you love him, comfort him, honour him, in sickness and health, in times of joy and times of trouble, will you in fact, share your whole life with him, and forsaking all others, keep only unto him, so long as you both shall live?

Bride:

Reading:
Minister:
(to assembly)

Let us complete this ceremony by considering what the Bible says abount Love in:

1st Corinthians, Chapter 13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
and have not Love, I am like a noisy gong, or a clanging cymbal.

And if I have the gift of prophecy, and all knowledge;
and if I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains,
and have not Love, I am nothing.

If I give away all my goods to feed the poor,
and if I give my body to be burned, and have not Love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind;

It is not jealous or boastful;

Love is not arrogant or rude,

It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful

Love dos not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.

It bears al things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends;.... as for prophecies, they shall pass away;....
as for tongues, they shall cease;..... as for knowledge, it shall vanish away.

For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy imperfect;

But when the Perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child,
I perceived as a child, I reasoned as a child;
but when I became a man, I gave up childish ways.

For now we see in a mirror dimly; but then face to face. Now I know in part;
then I shall understand fully even as I have been fully understood.

So, these three: Faith, Hope and Love abide;
But the greatest of these is Love.

Declaration:
Minister:
(to assembly)

Friends, Sir Lancelot and his Lady Guinevere have declared before me and before all of you, their friends, that they will live together in marriage, so long as they both shall live. They have made special promises to each other. They have symbolised it by joining hands and by giving and receiving a ring.

I, therefore, in powers vested in me by the Attorney General and people of Australia, declare them to be henceforth, husband and wife.
