Gordon Lightfoot: The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald – Song of the Day 1 – HOLLY NOTE: SS Edmund Fitzgerald is an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in Lake Superior during a storm on November 10, 1975; 47 years ago today. Its toll took the lives of the entire crew – 29 men. When launched on June 7, 1958, she was the largest ship on North America's Great Lakes, and she remains the largest to have sunk.

Canadian-born Lightfoot is one of the world's great singer-songwriting storytellers. Alive and well at 83, he is credited with helping define folk-rock of the 60s and 70s.

Lightfoot has received 16 Juno Awards for top folk singer, for top male vocalist and as composer. He has received ASCAP awards for songwriting and nominated for 5 Grammies. In 1980 he was named Canadian male Recording Artist of the Decade. In June 2014, Lightfoot was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award and in 1027 rated 5^th in the CBC's (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) list of the 25 best Canadian songwriters ever, and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.

In the early 90's I listened primarily to soft rock, rock and pop, but Billy Dean's outstanding music pulled me into country. In part because Country lost a lot of the unbearable twang and became mainstream. Despite a being a beautiful man with gorgeous dimples and being the perfect height of 6'4", it was his music that trapped my heart.

You may have noticed, too, a change in our news postings to find not just the stuff you need to know, but using a lighter hand. We don't need to wallow in the depressing to see what's going on, so we hope you appreciate this more balanced approach.

Stayed up till nearly 1 a.m. watching the concert Friday night. Couldn't do that again Saturday. Made it to about 10 after Luke Combs performed 7 of his #1 hits. Anyone who wants to catch the replay, fast forward through acts not to your taste, the CW network will do a 2-night airing Oct. 7 and 8 from 8–10 p.m. ET/PT. 385 on DirecTV and on Dish, it's considered a local channel so there isn't a set station number. Check local listings.

Morgan Wallen: Sand In My Boots – Song of Day 1 – HOLLY NOTE: Morgan Wallen headlined along with my man Luke Combs at the T-Mobile Area in Vegas Friday night. Love them both. Lionel Richie too + another dozen artists. Pat Benatar at nearly 70 was crazy good! She paid tribute to her husband Neil Giraldo and their 40-year marriage. He absolutely blazed on both guitar and piano.

Have Wallen's current double album, Dangerous, and there isn't a single mediocre song among them. Radio hosts said that Wallen could have sold out that 20,000 seating arena entirely on his own, he's that good. My personal fav tune of his is Wasted on You, with Dominic Frost's beautiful accompanying voice and stellar picking.
Luke Combs: One Number Away – Song of Day 2 – HOLLY NOTE: Tribute to Luke 'The Man' Combs. Luke is the current #1 country music star in the world. That said, Combs and Wallen have such mutual respect. Both men are so gifted.

If push came to shove, and young adults say 15-17 who know how to shoot, that 33% might rise considerably. Many kids younger than 15 who live rurally know how to shoot.

More than 393 million firearms are civilian-owned in the U.S., – enough for every man, woman and child to own one and still have 67 million guns left over. So government has cause to worry if they push citizens too far, too egregiously. Americans won't go down without a fight.
