We advise you to do your own research on-line. Additionally, drive around your neighborhood and when you see solar panels installed, ask them where they got them and if the company is recommended. That's what we did several years ago. Now, quite a few homes in our community have mostly roof-top panels.

Isaias revealed something interesting. It used to be FEMA recommended to 'have some food and water on hand.' Then they became more specific to have 48 hours of everything you'd need in an emergency. A decade ago, that morphed to 72 hours. With Isaias, officials said to have 7 days.

To that end, we're recommending people check into solar panels because things are looking very precarious around the globe.

No, we didn't get rich all of a sudden. A decade ago we wanted to put in a solar system for our house. Estimates came back at $70,000. That was a no-go. The main cost is in the battery bank if you want to be totally off-grid. However, there is something you can do that costs you nothing.

Many solar companies around the U.S. offer a deal where they average your monthly electric bill and you pay them that amount monthly instead of the utility company. That goes toward paying for the solar panels.

They do a free estimate, assess how many panels are needed and do the install for FREE. What power you don't use during the day feeds back to the utility company and they pay you for it at the end of the month. They also show you how to disconnect from the utility company if and when the grid goes down. So it's a win-win-win for everybody.

We're going with a local company, Steel City Solar and there are more than 10,000 solar companies spread throughout every state. Choose either a roof or ground install. As said, things are looking 'iffy' around the edges, so we're protecting the solar panels with an EMP Shield, but this isn't required. It's just another layer of protection.
